Superintendent’s Advisory Committee on Assessments to Meet
Release date: 3/17/2017
Tests that students take each year serve a variety of purposes. Parents, teachers, schools, districts and the state use them to design instruction, understand student knowledge growth, measure teacher effectiveness and capture overall state and district performance. Some Ohio tests also serve to comply with federal requirements to help the federal government understand how our nation’s education system is performing.
Superintendent DeMaria is convening a Superintendent's Advisory Committee on Assessments to focus on the full range of testing issues — including state-required tests, as well as district-level tests. This work will allow for a thorough and complete review and recommendations for any adjustments to these assessments — both state and local — in order to move toward a smarter, more efficient assessment system.
The committee will meet for the first time on Tuesday, March 21. Subsequent meetings will be held:
- Tuesday, April 4
- Tuesday, April 18
- Tuesday, May 2
- Tuesday, May 16
- Tuesday, May 30
- Tuesday, June 6
All meetings will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Education, 25 South Front Street, Columbus.
