Ohio Focuses $45 Million on Reading Support for Students in Most Need

The Ohio Department of Education today awarded more than $45 million to 247 schools and community-based programs as part of the 21st Century Community Learning Center grants. The program provides opportunities for children who come from economically disadvantaged families and attend low-performing schools to receive additional academic supports.

Application Deadline Extended for Private School Scholarships

The deadline to apply for scholarships that help students from underperforming public schools attend participating private schools has been extended until Sept. 5, 2014, as more students may become eligible.  

The department of education soon will re-issue report cards from 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 for districts identified as “scrubbers” (and 2010-2011 for the Columbus City School District), which could make students enrolled at specific schools eligible for EdChoice Scholarships.

Ohio Straight A Fund Governing Board Recommends Applicants for Approval

Awardees Expected to Save More Than $200 Million

COLUMBUS –– Building on the success of the first round of Straight A Fund grants, the Straight A Fund Governing Board recommended 34 innovative and cost effective grants be funded in fiscal year 2015 at their meeting Friday. The recommended grantees estimate savings and spending reductions of $246.7 million over five years.
