COLUMBUS, Ohio — As an expression of thanks to The Ohio State University Marching Band, Director Jonathan Waters, the Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band marching assistants and all of the band’s supporters, the Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band will perform a concert and a give a presentation about preparing for and performing a Double Script Ohio and Braille Ohio at Ohio Stadium during halftime of a Buckeye football game at “The Shoe” earlier this fall.
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan was the featured keynote speaker as nearly 350 education, business and community leaders from 15 states attended the first Rural Education National Forum today.
Ohio’s school leaders have enthusiastically responded to the state’s new Straight A Fund, with 420 organizations submitting 570 applications to be considered for funds to improve achievement and increase efficiency. The $250 million fund was created in the new state budget signed this summer by Gov. John R. Kasich.
The Ohio Department of Education is pleased to announce that more than 450 Straight A Fund grant applications are currently being prepared through the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP), the department of education’s electronic grants management system. The deadline to submit applications for the grant is Friday, Oct. 25.
The State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Richard A. Ross today directed the closure of two community schools by its sponsor and summoned the superintendent of the sponsor to his office to account for the dismal performance of its schools.
