As a result of feedback from educators throughout Ohio as well as an advisory group, the Department is restructuring the Ohio Resident Educator Program for this school year, including the program’s summative assessment. Beginning teachers with resident educator licenses take the Ohio Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) in year three of the four-year program. These teachers become eligible for a professional teaching license once they pass RESA and complete four years of the program, including focused mentoring components and any local requirements.

Summer is a season of sleeveless tops, shorts and bathing suits, so what better time than now to talk with youth about their body image. Body Image is the way individuals think and feel about their own body, as well as how they perceive others to think and feel about their appearance. Heavily influenced by family, friends and media, one’s body image can be positive or negative.
The Department expects that most students will meet one of the three existing pathways and districts should continue to work with students, as appropriate, to meet these requirements. However, the recent budget bill authorized two additional options only for students in the class of 2018 who entered grade 9 between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015. These options provide an opportunity for those students who do not otherwise meet one of the three existing pathways to graduation to earn a diploma.
