Teaching in Taiwan Program

Two Ohio teachers will spend a year living and teaching English in Taiwan for the 2014-2015 school year. Sonniya Phuong, a high school teacher at Fairfield High School in Cincinnati and Traci Stallworth-Estrada, a Grade 5-8 teacher at Alfred A. Benesch School, will be joining other selected U.S. teachers for this unique opportunity.

Teacher and principal evaluator training for “re-calibrating” credentials is available

Training and tests are now available for educators who need to update their credentials as evaluators for the Ohio Teacher or Principal Evaluation Systems. The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) is administering the re-calibration process. To successfully complete re-calibration, which is required every two years, teacher evaluators must take three hours of online training and principal evaluators must take two hours of online training. Both teacher and principal evaluators also need to pass the appropriate tests. More information is available on the department’s website.

College and Career Readiness

In August 2013, the Ohio Department of Education informed high schools that they would be required to give PSAT assessments to sophomores beginning in October 2014.

In February 2014, the department communicated to district superintendents that it will not require that the PSAT be given in October 2014.

Office of Professional Conduct Annual Report

ODE's Office of Professional Conduct submits an annual report to the State Board of Education. The Annual Report for 2013 will assist readers in understanding professional conduct initiatives of the office and of ODE.
