Consistently high-performing teacher designation impacts professional license renewal requirements

With adoption of State Board of Education language defining consistently high-performing teachers, certain educators with professionallead professional or senior professional teaching licenses may not need to complete additional coursework or equivalent continuing education credits to renew their educator licenses. An educator who meets the State Board definition of consistently high-performing teacher is exempt from the additional coursework requirement for the renewal of a professional educator license for the next renewal cycle. Beginning the afternoon of Jan. 18, the CORE licensure application will ask each local professional development committee chair or co-chair to indicate whether or not an applicant meets the eligibility criteria. Know! January 23-29 is National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week

When it comes to alcohol and other drugs, there are opinions and then there are facts. It’s hard enough for adults to distinguish between the two; it is even more challenging for youth, who get much of their information from the internet, TV, movies, music or from friends. January is Birth Defects Prevention Month

As you may regularly witness first-hand, birth defects can have far-reaching effects on the lives of children and families. While many unknown factors can play a role in the occurrence of birth defects, infection prevention is one of the simple steps we can all work together on.

Print out “Prevent to Protect Prevent Infections for Baby’s Protection” to raise awareness of the connection between infections and birth defects.

Resources to support your conversations with families are available through the BrightFutures.org and HealthyChildren.org websites.

Preschool and school age child care programs that the Ohio Department of Education oversees will use a new program licensing and quality rating system beginning on Monday, Jan. 30.
