NOVEMBER 29, 2017-2018 SPONSOR EVALUATION TRAINING
I have two important items to share with you today:
First, the training session for the Ohio Department of Education’s 2017-2018 sponsor evaluation process will be Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at the OCLC Conference Center, Dublin, Ohio.
The Department soon will post the final 2017-2018 evaluation materials on its website for your review. Trainers will explain all three evaluation components and share information on updates from the 2016-2017 sponsor evaluation process.
All sponsors must attend and may bring up to five participants. Register for the session, titled OCS 2017-2018 Sponsor Evaluation Training, through STARS using your SAFE account. Enter OCS in the search box to find the event.
Send an email to email@example.com if you have questions about the training. Send questions about registration to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Second, the Office of Community Schools has received several questions about e-school enrollment caps and service areas.
Regarding enrollment caps, Ohio Revised Code 3314.20 requires all internet- or computer-based community schools to comply with these annual enrollment growth limits:
- For a school with an enrollment limit equal to or greater than 3,000 students, 15 percent increase per year;
- For a school with an enrollment limit of less than 3,000 students, 25 percent increase per year.
A community school will not be paid for students enrolled once the school has reached its enrollment cap. If the Department already has paid the school for these students, the state will deduct that total amount from future payments to the school. Find enrollment limits for the 2017-2018 school year here
Regarding service area limitations, remember that the law does not allow every e-school to enroll students from anywhere in Ohio. Click here
to find the list of current e-schools authorized to enroll students statewide. I suggest you review the enrollments of the e-schools you authorize to make sure these schools are complying with both enrollment and service area limitations. By Dec. 1, the Department will post further information on its website about the approval of new e-schools and expansion of existing e-school territories. If you have questions, please contact your Office of Community Schools consultant.
