Reminder: Important Deadlines Approaching
As a reminder, please find some important deadlines outlined below:
Ohio Revised Code 3314.032 (C) requires each community school governing authority to adopt an annual budget by Oct. 31 each year. Find the Department’s revised annual budget format and guidance are posted on the Department’s website under the school's section. Community schools must use this format for their annual budgets. The community school sponsor must upload in Epicenter the adopted community school annual budget by Oct. 31 each year and the board resolution or minutes showing adoption of the annual budget by Dec. 31 of each year.
Ohio Administrative Code 3301-92-04 requires all community schools to submit to the Ohio Department of Education a five-year forecast of revenues and expenditures twice annually. The deadline for submission of the first forecast for this school year is October 31. Access to the Five-Year Forecast Guidance document and the forecast template are found at this link. Sponsors must upload the completed Five-Year Forecast using the new format for each of their sponsored schools no later than October 31 at 11:59 pm. To assist you in the transition to using the revised format the Department of Education is providing a webinar highlighting the changes. The webinar lasts approximately an hour and can be found here in the highlighted text box.
Ohio law requires sponsors of each community school to submit to the Ohio Department of Education, annually on or before Nov. 1, a report describing the special education and related services the community school provided enrolled students in the previous school year. The report also must describe the school’s expenditures for those services. Find the template and guidance on the Department’s website under the sponsors section. Instead of completing the entire form sponsors may, at their discretion, opt to only complete pages 1, 2, and the five Delivery of Services questions on page 10 in addition to verifying the expenditures data provided for review.
On or before Nov. 30, each sponsor must submit an annual report for the 2016-2017 school year to include performance of each school it sponsored as of Dec. 1, 2016. The report must provide a clear snapshot of each school in the following areas: (1) academic performance; (2) fiscal performance; (3) organization and operation; and (4) legal compliance. The guidance for this report is located here.
As always, please contact your lead consultant in the Office of Community Schools should you have any questions.
Have a great weekend,
