OH|ID to Replace SAFE: Learn More About This New Portal and Access Helpful Resources
The information below has either been shared via EdConnection or made available on the Department’s website.
On Monday, May 13, the Ohio Department of Education’s SAFE portal will be integrated with the OH|ID portal from InnovateOhio. Due to this transition, the SAFE portal will go offline on Friday, May 10 at 5 p.m. The portal will remain offline all weekend, and the new portal should be live Monday, May 13 at 7 a.m. The SAFE login link at the top of the Department’s homepage—as well as existing bookmarks to the SAFE login page—should redirect to the new myOhio login page at that time.
What is OH|ID?
Through OH|ID, Ohio Department of Education users will be able to access applications in a more secure, streamlined way. Because OH|ID uniquely encrypts a user’s personal information, every user must have only one OH|ID account. Of course, users should never share their OH|ID credentials.
What happens to my SAFE profile?
Users who have current SAFE profiles will have their profile information automatically converted to Ohio Department of Education profiles during the OH|ID integration. Teacher licensure renewal, scholarship applications, school data reporting information, and professional development training—all currently available via SAFE—will all be accessible via the myOhio login page starting Monday, May 13.
Creating an OH|ID account
Users with existing OH|ID accounts through another agency do not need to create new accounts. All other users will need to create OH|ID accounts. For additional information on creating an OH|ID account, click here
Logging in to OH|ID
It’s important for users to understand that OH|ID credentials are not the same as SAFE credentials; logging in to OH|ID with SAFE credentials will not work.
Users who already have an OH|ID account
from another agency will be able to log in using their existing OH|ID username and password. These users will be able to link their existing Department of Education (formerly SAFE) profile to their OH|ID account.
Users who do not have an existing OH|ID account
will need to create one. Once an OH|ID account is created, an existing Department of Education (formerly SAFE) profile can be linked to it. For additional information on how to log in to OH|ID, click here.
Accessing and adding education applications
Once both profiles are established, the relevant education applications will appear under the My Apps section. For additional information on accessing applications via OH|ID, click here.
EMIS and ODDEX
For EMIS and ODDEX users, they will continue to use their current SAFE login and URL for at least the next 2 weeks. EMIS and ODDEX users should still get a new OH|ID login and link their SAFE profile as discussed in the guidance, but that new login will not be used for ODDEX until the ODDEX transition takes place. Additional information on that timing will be shared as soon as we have it available.
