Data Review and Appeal Windows Open for 2017 Financial Data
From Monday, Sept. 18, through Friday, Sept. 29, treasurers of traditional districts, community schools, JVSDs, STEM districts and educational service centers can conduct their required reviews of their finance data submitted in EMIS. These data affect finance data on the 2017 Ohio School Report Cards and maintenance of effort (MOE) obligations for federal funding.

Treasurers are to signify whether these data are accurate as they complete the 2017 Data Review for Finance form, which is within the Forms application in SAFE. If a treasurer has inaccurate data, he or she also should submit an appeal by the Sept. 29 deadline as described here, using the 2017 Data Appeal for Finance form.

A data appeal form is not officially submitted to the Department until the treasurer approves the form to complete the process. Please note that this form does NOT require superintendent approval.

Data Review and Appeal Windows Open for 2017 Funding Data
State law requires treasurers and superintendents to review funding data from EMIS and the Ohio District Data Exchange and complete the 2017 Data Review for Funding, which is in the Forms application in SAFE. Both must review and complete the form between Sept. 18 and Oct 4, 2017. Districts who find they have reported inaccurate data that is affecting their funding should submit an appeal by the Oct. 4 deadline using the 2017 Data Appeal for Funding form.

The funding data appeals window will allow an opportunity to appeal cross-district data (such as community school funding flags and overlapping enrollment) and career technical education-related course data that impact funding. As notified in EdConnection on July 31, districts will not be able to appeal their own student data during the funding appeal process. This data has already been subject to appeal during the student data appeals process in early August.

The treasurer and superintendent must both approve the Funding Data Review and Funding Data Appeals forms before the Department will consider them official. The treasurer must approve the forms first, then the superintendent or designee approves the form to complete the process. For more information about the data review dates, timeline and completion process, click here. For answers to questions about data review or data appeals, contact the Office of Data Quality.
