New Yearend Data Appeals Process Established for Districts and Community Schools
Data reported to the Ohio Department of Education by districts and community schools during the course of the Yearend Education Management Information System (EMIS) data submission window play a critical role in generating the Ohio School Report Card. The department recognizes that data reporting errors can occur during the submission period. Because of their potential impact on the educational opportunities available to Ohio’s students, the department has designed a process for districts to appeal and correct substantive reporting errors. Substantive reporting errors may include, but are not limited to, those that affect Ohio School Report Card grades, financial payments, teacher Value-Added calculations and a child’s eligibility for educational choice.

Districts may use the 2014 Yearend Data Appeals process to alert the department to reporting errors and request an opportunity to correct errors. More information about the process and a link to the application can be found on the department’s website here: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Data/EMIS/Reporting-Responsibilities/Data-Appeals.

Completed applications must be submitted to DataAppeals@education.ohio.gov by Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.  All applications require the signatures of the district superintendent, treasurer, EMIS Coordinator, and, for community schools, the authorizer’s representative.

Districts interested in correcting data reported for the K-3 Literacy measure do not need to use the 2014 Yearend Data Appeals process. Please contact your EMIS Coordinator for more information regarding K-3 Literacy data submission.
