On Dec. 16, 2014, the Office of Career-Technical Education recorded the Middle-Grade and Industry-Recognized Credential Courses for Seniors Webcast. During this recording, which is approximately one-hour long, Director Bill Bussey and Associate Director Jamie Nash outline these two important career-tech initiatives. The recording also includes the question and answer session that took place at the end of the presentation.

Akron marketing teacher is a national new educator of the year

Akron marketing teacher is national new educator of the year

Eric Mathews, Akron Public Schools marketing teacher, is the American Association for Career and Technical Education’s new career-tech educator of the year. He received the award during the association’s national conference in November.

Mathews became a teacher five years ago after nearly 20 years in private industry human resource management. His previous employers include Wendy’s, Ford Motor Company and Goodyear. As advisor for the student DECA organization and marketing program, he coaches students for state and national competitions. He led an initiative to teach global competencies and served on a team to help students obtain and retain jobs. He also has participated in the Aspiring Principal’s Academy with six weeks as interim assistant principal.
