E-Rate Technical Assistance Program

Manage the Cost of Connectivity

The E-Rate Technical Assistance Program is available to eligible K-12 schools and public libraries, providing affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services. This federal program is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), and provides discounts on telecommunications, Internet access service costs and internal connections.

The E-Rate program has provided more than $1 billion to Ohio schools and libraries for their telecommunications and Internet services, as well as internal connections equipment and basic maintenance costs.

The ongoing proliferation of innovative digital learning technologies and the need to connect students, teachers and consumers to jobs, life-long learning and information have led to a steady rise in demand for bandwidth in schools and libraries. In recent years, the FCC refocused E-Rate from legacy telecommunications services to broadband, with a goal to significantly expand Wi-Fi access. These steps to modernize the program are helping E-Rate keep pace with the need for increased Internet access.
