Ohio World Language Teacher of the Year
Alan Turner has taught French and Spanish at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland since 1987. He has been an active Ohio Foreign Language Association member since 1987 and has served as that organization’s executive treasurer since 2011. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in French and Linguistics from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Cleveland State University. He is currently completing a second master’s degree in Global Interactions at Cleveland State University. His professional activities include earning and renewing National Board Certification, participating in the AP French Reading since 1997 where he currently serves as a Question Leader, and being a member of the SAT French Development Committee. He has participated actively in the Fulbright Seminars Abroad program in Morocco, Tunisia, Thailand and Vietnam. Turner studied Arabic at the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institutes at The Ohio State University and Chinese culture at the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University. In 2011 he was a finalist at the U.S. Innovative Education Forum held on the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, WA. In March, he represented Ohio as the state’s nominee for the 2014 Central States Conference’s regional Teacher of the Year competition in St. Louis, Missouri.
