Local boards must select interim end-of-course tests in history and government by July 1

Local school district boards of education have until July 1 to adopt interim end-of-course examinations assessing mastery of American history and government standards as well as the historic documents identified state law. While many boards are doing a formal board resolution, this is not required. Each board can adopt through a motion or other means typically used for curriculum adoption. Revision made to grade 4 model curriculum

ODE recently revised the Content Elaboration and Expectations for Learning for grade 4 social studies, content statement 8. Look for Grade Four Model Curriculum for Social Studies (PDF) (Rev. May 2013) on the social studies standards website.

We the People: Engaging Students in Their Constitutional Government

The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education is sponsoring an interactive course on the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution curricula for teachers of American history, government and AP government in grades 8-12. The courses are:

  • June 25-27, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Ashland University Columbus Center, 1900 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43229
  • July 29-31; 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, 5811 Canal Rd., Room 210, Valley View, OH 44125

Participants may receive a certificate of contact hours or earn one semester hour of graduate level credit from Ashland University. Contact Jared Reitz at the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education for additional information and to register.

2013 Law & Citizenship Conference – OCLRE celebrates 30 years

The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education will celebrate its 30th anniversary at the annual Law & Citizenship Conference, Sept. 22-23, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin.

The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education is offering the MY OHIO activity book for third and fourth grades at a special anniversary price of $30.
