Transition Tools and Resources for Ohio's Learning Standards: K-12 Math

Implementation Tools

Make your classroom's transition to Ohio's Learning Standards in Mathematics easy using the tools and aids you'll find below. These documents summarize the relationship between Ohio's 2001 Academic Content Standards in Mathematics and the Ohio's Learning Standards in Mathematics.

Alignment Toolkit Phase 1: Gap Analysis - These tools allow educators to closely examine the Ohio's Learning Standards and Model Curriculum to determine how well their curriculum addresses the concepts and skills found in the standards, as well as the required cognitive levels.

Alignment Toolkit Phase 2: Curriculum Revision - These tools create a framework from the standards and model curriculum for planning units around big ideas/concepts; sequencing units to the school year; intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary connections; diverse learner considerations; technology integration; formative, summative and performance-based assessment practices; and resources.

Alignment Toolkit Phase 3: Implementation - These tools deliver support to educators as they implement Ohio’s Learning Standards. They are sorted into three categories: curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Additional Resources

Illustrative Mathematics - Illustrative Mathematics provides guidance by illustrating the range and types of mathematical work that students should experience in a faithful implementation of Ohio's Learning Standards in Mathematics, and by publishing other tools that support implementation of the standards.

Inside Mathematics - Inside Mathematics is a professional resource where educators can find lesson ideas aligned to Ohio's Learning Standards in Mathematics. This site includes resources like classroom videos and exemplary lessons. Teachers interested in the lessons can use the Task and Student Work Analysis document as a guideline for how to complete a chosen task. Other ideas for tasks or lessons are provided on the Correlation of Inside Mathematics to the CCSS  document. To find a copy of the lesson activities go to and search by task name.

Learning Progressions - Narrative documents describing the typical learning progression of a topic, informed by both research on children’s cognitive development and the logical structure of mathematics.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives - The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives contains manipulatives and concept tutorials across the grade bands.

Ohio Math on LinkedIn - To promote statewide dialogue the Ohio Department of Education started Ohio Math, a discussion forum on LinkedIn that is open to educators on all levels across the state. The forum encourages educators to promote their achievements, voice concerns, share ideas and collaborate with each other. To join in the discussion participants are required to open a free LinkedIn account. Once you have a LinkedIn account, search Ohio Math.
