Teaching in Taiwan – Special Opportunity

Through a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, the Ohio Department of Education invites new and experienced licensed elementary and middle school teachers to apply to the Teaching in Taiwan program. The selected educators teach English to students in Taiwan for one academic year. Teaching contracts are from 10 to 11 months, depending on the placement.

The department has completed and posted a new handout explaining which state tests in science students in grades 6-12 should take, depending upon which science courses they have enrolled in. 


Piloting Sign-Ups for the Updated Physical Education Evaluation

Many of you are aware that the Ohio Physical Education Standards have recently been updated. In addition, the required physical education evaluations have also been updated to reflect the revised standards and to incorporate feedback received from teachers throughout Ohio.

The revised physical education evaluations will be in effect during the 2016 – 2017 school year. If you are interested in piloting the evaluations and providing feedback for the 2015-16 school year on them prior to them going into effect, please sign-up below no later than September 9th.


Budget Bill Made Changes to Teacher Evaluation for 2015-2016

State law (Ohio House Bill 64) brought changes to the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System for the 2015-2016 school year and beyond. The bill extends safe harbor provisions for educators who use value-added ratings from state tests for the student growth measure portion of their evaluations. The legislation also modifies the alternative framework, one of two models districts must choose from when evaluating teachers and principals.
