Providers

    Who can become a registered provider in the Autism Scholarship program?

    A school or business with staff who have the appropriate credentials or an individual to provide special/related services may become a registered private provider. Providers operating as a business will need to have been in business for at least a year upon applying.  Please contact the scholarship office for details.

    What is the provider’s role in the IEP process?
    Providers in the Autism scholarship program are required to submit quarterly progress reports in the scholarship system detailing the student’s progress towards special/related goals and services.
    Districts may request updated or additional progress information from the provider to aid in their annual IEP review.

Statewide Testing

    Are students in the Autism Scholarship program required to participate in statewide testing?

    Students are not required to participate in state assessments in order to renew the Autism Scholarship.

    Scholarship students in high school who attend chartered non-public schools must take any tests required by that school for graduation.

Miscellaneous Questions

    Will there be any award proration of payment for a child that participates in the Autism Scholarship program less than the full program year?

    Yes, funding will be prorated based on either the application submittal date or the start date of the IEP, whichever is later. The same proration rules would apply if a child withdraws from the program before the end of the specific program year. In addition, a scholarship will be prorated if the child withdraws from another scholarship program or a community/public school district. The amount of the scholarship is based on the withdrawal date from the other program or public school.

    Can a provider implement services not listed on a student’s IEP?

    Yes, upon agreement between the parent and provider by submitting a modification request form. This form is found in the user manual and forms tab.

    What happens when a student is reevaluated mid-year and results in a loss of eligibility for special education and related services?

    Students who are reevaluated and are no longer identified as a student with a disability will be able to continue in the program for the remainder of the scholarship award period. The student will not be eligible to renew the scholarship for the following year.

    What happens when a student is reevaluated mid-year and is identified in a different category than at the time of award?
    If a disability category changes mid-year, the student would remain at the current award amount and the changes will not take effect until the next program year.

    Who reviews the student applications for the Autism Scholarship?

    The district is responsible for reviewing the student’s application for the scholarship program.
