ODE Announces New E-schools for 2013-14

7/2/2013

The Ohio Department Education approved three new e-schools for the 2013-14 school year.

The three schools are Mosaica Online Academy of Ohio, Provost Academy of Ohio and Insight School of Ohio.

  • Mosaica Online Academy of Ohio will be a Columbus School District based e-school serving students statewide in grades K-12.
  • Provost Academy of Ohio is a Cleveland School District based e-school serving students statewide in grades 6-12.
  • Insight School of Ohio is also a Columbus School District based e-school serving students statewide in grades 6-12.

Prior to the new additions, there were 23 e-schools serving approximately 40,000 students.

A total of seven schools applied and went through the e-School application process designed to determine an applicant’s eligibility and capacity to develop and operate a high quality e-school. The Superintendent of Public Instruction may approve up to five applications for new e-schools to open for the 2013-14 school-year.

Decisions regarding approval and disapproval are based on an applicant’s scores on measures of experience and quality per Section 3314.013 of the Ohio Revised Code. Each applicant was rated based on the experience of the applicant’s sponsor and operator as well as the academic performance of the sponsors’ and operators’ other schools. In addition to their rating, information pertaining to the sponsors’ and the operators’ experience in terms of statutory compliance was considered by the Superintendent of Public Instruction in making final decisions.
