Submit school safety plan through secure online portal

Ohio schools may now submit their school safety plans via a secure online portal to help first responders in case of an emergency. The portal is one of the many recommendations included in the Ohio Attorney General’s School Safety Task Force announced earlier this year.

Criminal background check updates required for permanent and non-tax certificate holders

Pursuant to Ohio law, holders of permanent certificates and permanent non-tax certificates are required to complete an updated FBI background check every five years. An updated Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check is also required if the certificate holder has lived outside Ohio within the past five years.

Educator license applications are going paperless effective Jan. 1, 2014

Beginning in January 2014, the submission and approval process for all first-time or renewal licensure applications must be completed online.

EdChoice Scholarship Program updates

More than 17,000 students are currently receiving EdChoice scholarships and attending participating private schools across the state. An additional 1,000 students have been awarded an EdChoice Expansion scholarship.

Cleveland Scholarship Program Updates

Currently, there are approximately 6,177 students residing in the Cleveland Municipal School District who have accepted their scholarship awards and are attending a participating private school. This includes some of additional 635 scholarships that were awarded to waitlisted students for the 2013-2014 school year.

Jon Peterson Scholarship Program updates

The second application period for the Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship Program ends on Nov. 15, 2013. This application period will provide funding for services received Jan. 1 through June 30 of the 2013-2014 school year.
