General Questions

    Whom do I contact for Race to the Top sponsor and community school questions?

    General questions related to Race to the Top can be directed to the Race to the Top Team. Specific questions related to school requirements, Scopes of Work, Progress Monitoring Reports, and Professional Development Plans should be directed to the assigned RttT Specialist in your region. Budget or other questions that cannot be answered by an RttT Specialists should be referred to the corresponding RttT Regional Coordinator.

    What is the role of a sponsor for a community school that is participating in Race to the Top?

    The sponsor is required to understand and monitor the school’s Scope of Work, Professional Development Plan, and Budget along with the normal course of oversight of the school. The sponsor’s regional representative or another sponsor designee can participate as an observer on the school’s Transformation Team. The sponsor should monitor whether the commitments in the Scope of Work are being delivered, that the school is open and accessible to RttT Specialists and Regional Coordinators, the budgeting process is proceeding smoothly and in compliance with federal law, and the school’s RttT work is being communicated to stakeholder groups as described in the State Scope of Work.

    What is the nature of the sponsor’s relationship with Race to the Top? Specifically the relationship with the RttT Regional Coordinator and Specialists working with their participating community school?

    Sponsors of community schools should feel welcome to contact members of the RttT Team, Regional Coordinators or Specialists to ensure communication and optimal implementation of the each school’s Scope of Work. Sponsors should be knowledgeable about the work of Race to the Top, the requirements for participation, and their oversight and technical assistance responsibilities. As needed, the RttT Team will work with sponsors and management companies via the Office of Community Schools in facilitating technical assistance and overseeing activities to ensure their participating community schools are meeting the agreements and requirements of the Race to the Top grant.

    What is the sponsor’s role with regards to their community school’s Race to the Top budget?

    The sponsor is required to understand the school’s RttT budget and review the school’s RttT budget during the required monthly financial reviews.
