Calamity Days and Timelines
Reminder: Calamity days do not excuse districts from their obligations to meet federally defined timelines.
The federal government requires 100 percent compliance with procedural timelines, and expects that districts will schedule so that there is a bit of leeway for the unexpected. As the US Department of Education does not permit exceptions based on weather, there isn’t an EMIS code for noncompliance due to weather. The Ohio Department of Education recommends that you use compliance reason “01” – no identified reason – for cases that a calamity (windstorm, flooding, HVAC failure or snow day) makes it impossible to meet the timelines.
