New Ohio Academic Content Standards–Extended modules released

3/5/2014

The Ohio Academic Content Standards–Extended are also commonly known as "the extended standards." These standards help to ensure that students with significant cognitive disabilities are provided with multiple ways to learn and demonstrate knowledge. At the same time, the extended standards are designed to maintain the rigor and high expectations of Ohio’s New Learning Standards.

ODE is pleased to announce that we have released two new online instructional modules that address Ohio’s English Language Arts and Mathematics Content Standards-Extended. We will soon release two additional modules, for Ohio’s Science and Social Studies Content Standards-Extended. The modules are:

  • “Aligning Instruction to the Ohio English Language Arts Content Standards-Extended”
  • “Aligning Instruction to the Ohio Mathematics Content Standards-Extended”
  • “Aligning Instruction to the Ohio Science Content Standards-Extended” (Coming Soon)
  • “Aligning Instruction to the Ohio Social Studies Content Standards-Extended” (Coming Soon)

These four instructional modules join three previously released online modules:

  • “What are Extended Academic Content Standards”
  • “General Curriculum for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities”
  • “Planning Instruction and Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities”

Educators can earn contact hours for completing these instructional online modules, which can be accessed at ohextendedstandards.org.
