April Siegel-Green, Director of Exceptional Children for Chardon Local Schools in Chardon, Ohio since 2007 was presented with the inaugural Kathe Shelby Leadership Award by Sue Zake, Director of the Office for Exceptional Children, Ohio Department of Education, at Ohio’s Special Education Leadership Conference Award luncheon on September 23, 2012. Other nominees for the Award were also honored at the luncheon.

ODE made revisions to Ohio’s Title III Accountability Plan for students served in Limited English Proficient (LEP) programs and has received approval for the changes from the U.S. Department of Education. The revisions, which are effective for the 2009-2010 school year, will assure compliance with the federal Notice of Interpretations published in October 2008 regarding Title III of the No Child Left Behind Act. The changes are expected to be in incorporated into the Ohio Administrative Code in July 2010.
County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (DD) must validate their child count for the first full week of October 2012. The information from this report is critical to funding calculations. Please complete and return the documents no later than Friday, October 26, 2012.
Each time a school district completes an evaluation for a child with a disability, or undertakes the development, review or revision of the child’s IEP the district shall notify the child’s parent by letter or electronic means about both the Autism Scholarship Program and the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program.
