Grants, up to $5,000, are available to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and tax exempt public service agencies in the United States that are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their communities. Grants are given in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials or services.

New rules governing the creation and submission of school safety plans went into effect Jan. 5. The new law and the associated administrative rule are available at https://saferschools.ohio.gov/content/school_safety_plans.
Many districts are receiving communication from families refusing their children’s participation in state tests this spring. The department encourages schools to talk with families about their concerns regarding testing.
Spencer Wolf, a 2013 graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School’s career-tech digital design program, will represent the United States in this summer’s WorldSkills competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is one of 19 U.S. qualifiers in the 43rd international test in 45 categories that include automotive technology, bricklaying, manufacturing, restaurant services and graphic design.
Wolf works with clients at his own design firm, Wolf Graphic Design, while enrolled at Sinclair Community College. He qualified for the Aug. 11-16 WorldSkills events based on his demonstrated knowledge and skills in a seven-hour design test offered to top SkillsUSA competitors. WorldSkills draws competitors from 72 countries within five continents. Resumé-building gold, silver and bronze awards are presented.
