Prior to Registration

What do I need to do before registering for the IPTI?

    • Step 1: Complete an evaluation request application and mail it with official transcripts to determine if coursework requirements have been met. (Details are on the application.)
    • Step 2: Complete all coursework (through an accredited college/university) as indicated in the "Need" column on page 1 of your alternative evaluation worksheet and upload all official transcripts to your SAFE account.
    • Step 3: Complete the licensure content exam(s) as indicated in the "Need" column on page 1 of your alternative evaluation worksheet.
    • Step 4: Complete a BCI and FBI background check. Both a BCI and FBI background check less than 365 days old must be on file at the Ohio Department of Education prior to registering for the IPTI.  You may verify the date of your most recent background check received by our office in ODE.CORE through your SAFE account.

Please note: The ODE is unable to accept paper background check reports.  All background check reports must be submitted to ODE via electronic submission directly from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.  When you have your fingerprints taken at a WebCheck facility, please ask the person taking the prints to check the box under 'Reason Fingerprinted' to send the results to the Ohio Department of Education.
