Does your educator license expire in 2017? You can now renew it!
The Ohio Department of Education’s online application system is now open for renewal of educator licenses that are due to expire on June 30, 2017. If you have met your requirements for renewal, you can get ahead by submitting your application now online. Even if you are not ready to apply, we suggest that you review this article for tips on making the process go smoothly. You will even find information on applying for a new credential. Avoid the rush and apply early!
Do you have a SAFE account?
Because the entire licensure application process is online, you will need a secure SAFE account to create a license application request. If you previously set up a SAFE account but do not remember the password, go to the SAFE portal and use the “forgot user name or password” link located next to the sign in boxes. Please do not create a second SAFE account, even if you changed your name since first establishing your account.

You will need to verify your identity using your valid Ohio driver’s license, state of Ohio identification card or one of the other acceptable documents listed here.
Please go to the SAFE portal and click the “Sign Up” button to get started. Note that there is a link to a SAFE Sign-Up Help document.
After creating your SAFE account and receiving confirmation of its set-up via email, it’s quick and easy to submit and pay for your licensure request online.

Some applicants must complete course work to renew their licenses. Others may fulfill education requirements through continuing education, other equivalent activities or course work. Please see the Renew a License webpage

What if you want to add a new license?
License fees waived for veterans and those in the military
The fees for any initial Ohio educator license, permit or certificate – or for a renewal – will be waived for candidates who are veterans or current service members of all branches of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard or Reserves. Spouses of active duty services members also may receive a license free of charge. Those seeking the fee waiver will need to upload a scanned copy of a military service verification document.
