One-day labs to help districts complete local equity plans
Beginning Oct. 3, the Ohio Department of Education will be offering one-day equity labs at six locations across the state to assist local education agencies with their annual equity planning process. This work ensures that poor and minority students are receiving equitable access to excellent educators as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act. During the labs, participants can use the Equitable Access Analysis Tool to determine equity gaps, conduct a root-cause analysis and identify strategies to address gaps while also setting a goal to measure progress.
Each district should bring a stakeholder team of three to five people that could include the superintendent, principals, teachers, human resources staff, federal programs staff, parents or community members. We suggest that each team brings a computer device as participants will have an opportunity to submit their FY2018 equity plan in the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP).
Districts will complete their equity plans in the CCIP' Equitable Access to Excellent Educators Tab, formally known as the HQT Tab. The tab will open this October and districts will have until December to submit their local equity plans.
