Student Learning Objectives FAQs

Ohio's new system for evaluating teachers provides a richer and more detailed view of performance. It focuses on improvement by highlighting specific strengths and opportunities. The new system relies on two key components, each equally valued: a rating of teacher performance and a rating of student academic growth.

In the student growth area, there are not results from state tests in every grade and subject. For these grades and courses, a school district or community school creates local measures, called student learning objectives, to show the student progress those teachers are achieving.
