When a resident educator is ready to advance from a resident educator license to the professional license, he/she should log into their SAFE account and should make sure to select the Advance option in the “My Educator Profile (Dashboard)”.

Guidance for entering Completion Criteria for Resident Educators

Mentor Moments: finishing strong with focus and goals

Spring can be an overwhelming time for teachers! Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a first- year resident educator, spring brings a list of items that they must complete during this final quarter of the school year. Mentors, take some time to create a to-do list with your resident educator and discuss a reasonable timeline and goals for completing these items. Planning ahead and getting some of these required tasks checked off the list will minimize the stress and assist resident educators in the practice of planning for success.

How to choose the most effective mentor model

Data from the Ohio Resident Educator Program evaluation show that the majority of resident educators in Ohio receive one-to-one mentoring. While this may be appropriate in Years 1 and 2, as resident educators progress in their skills and knowledge, local programs may incorporate other mentor models such as co-teaching and cohorts as part of a differentiated support system for new teachers. Information from ongoing formative assessments between mentors and resident educators can help determine the most effective mentor model for each individual.

Updates regarding RESA candidates who did not submit any tasks

The department’s Ohio Resident Educator Program staff sent an email message on Monday, Feb. 29, to program coordinators with resident educators who had not submitted any tasks for this school year, yet are registered in CORE as taking RESA. If you are a program coordinator who did not receive this email, then all of your RESA candidates submitted evidence for at least one task.
