Registration of Resident Educators in CORE

Registering for the Resident Educator Program

Educators who meet the Resident Educator eligibility requirements should be registered annually for the program using the CORE registration system by the district/school Resident Educator Program Coordinator. Note: Individuals teaching career-technical courses under the Provisional/Initial 2-Year Career Technical Workforce Development License are exempt from participating in the local Resident Educator Program and therefore should NOT be registered in CORE.

You may check your registration in the Ohio Resident Educator Program by logging in to your Department of Education Profile and clicking on the “My RE Summary” from the “Important Links” box. Note: Resident educators should ensure that their contact information in their Department of Education Profile is current to receive important communications and updates about the RE program.

CORE Reporting Requirements

Program Coordinators use the Connected Ohio Records for Educators (CORE) system to plan, implement, and report on the Resident Educator program each school year. Program Coordinators must have the Coordinator-Resident Educator role in the Ohio Educational Directory System (OEDS) to access the CORE registration system. Program Coordinators are required to use this system to register their Resident Educators and to report their participation in and completion of each program year. Each Resident Educator must be registered and have end-of-year completion entered in CORE each year he or she participates in the program.

For Resident Educators who will be taking RESA, the Program Coordinator should make sure that the “RESA Taking” column on the Registration Search page in CORE is marked as “Y”, yes, for taking RESA. Resident Educators in their third year of the program are required to take RESA if they have not already received a passing RESA score. CORE will automatically set the parameter to “Y” for these Resident Educators. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, local policies and procedures may permit a year 2 resident educator to participate in the RESA upon consultation with their local program coordinator and mentor. Program Coordinators will have the option of marking “Y in the “RESA taking” column. The Program Coordinator should ensure that the Resident Educator understands that if the “RESA taking” column is marked “Y”, it is expected that the Resident Educator will be taking RESA and this will count as one of their attempts.

Please contact for back registrations.

End-of-Year Reporting

If an educator has not successfully completed all of the criteria for a program year, then he/she must be registered for the incomplete program year again in the following school year. For example, if a Resident Educator was registered as a year 1 in 2016-2017 and did not complete all of the criteria for year 1, he or she cannot be registered as a year 2 for the 2017-2018 school year. Instead, the Resident Educator would need to be registered as a year 1 again, in 2017-2018 and complete all the criteria in order to be registered as a year 2 for the following school year.

Program Coordinators are required to provide confirmation in CORE that all program requirements have or have not been completed at the end of each school year. Completion criteria for previous program years cannot be entered once a new program year has started. If you find you have Resident Educators with No Entry for a registration record from a prior year, please email for assistance.

If no completion criteria are entered for an educator at the end of the prior year, he/she cannot be registered for the following school year. The Coordinator must contact the first to enter the completion criteria section and then register the educator for the current school year.
