March 7 - Please monitor RESA schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks

3/7/2014

Last month, the department asked that resident educator program coordinators share the news about deadline extensions for RESA Tasks 2, 3, 4 and 5 to midnight Eastern Standard Time on Sunday, June 1, 2014. The complete news item on this topic includes explains that the department made change in deadlines because of the extreme weather and related school closures.

While this new June 1 deadline gives candidates the time to submit their best work, we are concerned that some may delay their work on the remaining RESA tasks. For that reason, Teachscape is asking for your help in reminding candidates to do everything possible to stick to the original RESA schedule, and not leave too much work to the end of the school year.

The Ohio Department of Education and Teachscape strongly recommend that candidates use the prior submission deadlines as a guide for completing the remaining tasks, e.g. submit Task 2 as soon as possible; Tasks 3 and 4 by mid-April; and Task 5 by mid-May. Candidates who wait until May to begin work on their remaining tasks will most likely fail to complete their work in time to meet the June 1, 2014 deadline.

Tips for Completing RESA Tasks On Time

We encourage you to share the following best practices with your RESA candidates as soon as possible and encourage them to:

  • Outline a schedule to complete the remaining RESA tasks (See the sample timeline posted on the RESA Web page at education.ohio.gov);

  • Schedule regular check-in calls/meetings with you (their RESA facilitator) to ensure that deadlines are met;

  • Review the RESA FAQs frequently on the OhioRESA.com Resources page to ensure they have read the most recent version (the RESA FAQs are updated regularly as new questions are posed to Help desk staff);

  • Videotape a lesson for Task 3 as soon as possible and get help immediately if they experience problems uploading or segmenting the video. The following resources are available to help with uploading video:
    • A webinar series and the document Video Evidence In The Submission System (PDF) are available on the OhioRESA.com Resources page;

    • If a candidate is having technical problems uploading video or other evidence, he or she should call the Teachscape Help Desk. Customer service agents are able to walk candidates through the uploading process, and in some instances, can upload the video for candidates.

  • Check that all videos and evidence uploaded to the RESA submissions system are scorable, thus ensuring that:
    • Videos are upright and audible;
    • Documents on the video are right-side up and legible;
    • Student names and school identities have been redacted;
    • Where possible, candidate’s name is removed from all evidence (including videos) in the submission.

  • Save all work on RESA outside of the submission system. For example, draft answers to the task forms in Microsoft Word and save them to a personal computer or flash drive.

Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring that all RESA candidates are able to successfully complete the RESA this year. The Teachscape RESA Help Desk is available Monday through Friday, 2-10 p.m. EST by calling toll-free (855) 538-8634 or emailing resa@teachscape.com.
