Supporting Resident Educators

Year 1

  • Work with program coordinator to assign 1:1 mentor to Resident Educator
  • Minimum 1 hour or 1 planning period per week (locally determined)
  • Ensure mentors and Resident Educators complete Year 1 Formative Progress Review

Year 2

  • Work with program coordinator to determine mentor model to use for Resident Educators: one-to-one, cohort, co-teaching, or a combination
  • 3-4 hours per month (locally determined)
  • Ensure Resident Educators and mentors complete Year 2 Formative Progress Review

Year 3

Work with program coordinators to determine if Resident Educators are ready to take the Resident Educator Summative assessment (RESA):

  • Resident Educators taking assessment
    • Work with program coordinator to assign statetrained facilitator
    • Ensure facilitator completes online facilitation training
  • Resident Educators not taking assessment
    • Work with program coordinator to assign statetrained mentor (one-to-one; RE cohort; coteaching or combination)

Year 4

Identify Resident Educators who need to begin RESA or retake deficient portions of the RESA. Resident Educators who successfully passed RESA engage in teacher leadership activities. Year 4 Resident Educators are not required to have a mentor.

  • Resident Educators taking and re-taking assessment
    • Work with program coordinator to assign state-trained facilitator
    • Ensure facilitator completes online facilitation training
  • Resident Educators not taking assessment
    • Support Year 4 Resident Educators with choosing professional growth and leadership opportunities
