Supporting Resident Educators

Year 1

  • Assign 1:1 mentor to Resident Educator
  • Year 1 Formative Progress Review (FPR) with mentor and Resident Educator

Year 2

  • Determine mentor model to use for Resident Educators: one-to-one, cohort, coteaching, or a combination
  • Year 2 Formative Progress Review (FPR) with mentor and Resident Educator

Year 3

Work with employer to determine if Resident Educators are ready to take the Resident Educator Summative assessment (RESA):

  • Resident Educators taking assessment
    • Work with principals to select and assign state-trained RESA facilitators
    • Ensure facilitator completes online facilitation training
  • Resident Educators not taking assessment
    • Assign state trained mentor (one-to-one; Resident Educator cohort; co-teaching or combination)

Year 4

Identify Resident Educators who need to begin RESA or retake deficient portions of the RESA. Resident Educators who successfully passed RESA engage in teacher leadership activities. Year 4 Resident Educators are not required to have a mentor.

  • Resident Educators taking and re-taking assessment
    • Work with principals to select and assign state-trained facilitator
    • Ensure facilitator completes online facilitation training
  • Resident Educators not taking assessment
    • Support Year 4 Resident Educators with choosing professional growth and leadership opportunities
