Start now if you need a coaching permit for fall

If you are a teacher who will apply for a coaching (pupil activity) permit this year, you will benefit from some new online resources on the Coaching Permit Web page. The department recently revised this page to clarify whether the district or the department verifies that the applicant has current training (in coaching fundamentals, first-aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and concussion awareness). Also, you will see new step-by-step guides to the online application designed for those who will apply for their first permit or a renewal.

Permanent and non-tax certificate holders - are your background checks up-to-date?

Educators who hold permanent certificates and permanent non-tax certificates are required by state law to update their FBI criminal background checks every five years through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). In addition, an updated BCI background check also is required if the certificate holder has lived outside Ohio within the past five years. Permanent certificate holders whose background checks will expire this school year (by June 30) will need to update these if they have not already done so. Educators may view the dates of their previous background checks through the Educator Profile on the department’s website at education.ohio.gov.
