Educator licensure process going paperless Jan. 1

Because the process for submitting and approving all educator licensure applications (initial licenses or renewals) is moving to a completely paperless system as of Jan. 1, any paper applications must be received by Dec. 31 to be processed. Thereafter, applicants and authorized electronic signers must complete the process online through My Educator Profile, the Ohio Department of Education’s online licensure application system.

Registration opens for new Ohio Assessments for Educators

Eleven new Ohio Assessments for Educators recently were added to the array of tests for candidates who are seeking initial Ohio educator licenses, or licensure in a new area. There are now 39 total Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAEs), which replace the Praxis II series as the required Ohio educator licensure assessments, except for world languages.

Criminal background check updates required for educators who have permanent and non-tax certificates

This school year is the five-year anniversary of new requirements for holders of permanent certificates and permanent non-tax certificates for working in schools. These certificate holders are required by Ohio law to complete updated FBI background checks through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) every five years. In addition, an updated BCI background check also is required if the certificate holder has lived outside Ohio within the past five years.

Registration opens for Ohio Educational Technology Conference

The Ohio Educational Technology Conference will be held on Jan. 27-29 in Columbus, where more than 400 state and national experts will give presentations on P-20 learning and innovation in Ohio. Learn from sessions on the Instructional Improvement System, Next Generation of Assessments, and sessions on integrating technology into classroom curriculum and instruction in content-specific areas.

“I am a Digital Learner” video contest deadline is Jan. 6

As part of the third annual Digital Learning Day celebration, Ohio students can showcase their creative talents and technology skills through the “I am a Digital Learner” video contest. Educators or parents are to submit the videos and registration form. The finalists and the winners will receive special attention in upcoming activities.
