Sign up now for free Ohio Digital Learning Day events on Feb. 5

Wednesday, Feb. 5, is Digital Learning Day 2014, a national campaign to spotlight successful instructional practice and effective use of technology. Teachers and students are encouraged to register to participate in statewide Digital Learning Day events that are all scheduled for Feb. 5, and also to take advantage of resources that will be available that day for future use:

  • Free Digital Day learning event is available from the Ohio Historical Society The society’s Creative Learning Factory is offering interactive distance learning programs to Ohio students. Each session will be streamed live via YouTube at designated times and students will interact with the program characters via chat. Live streaming times are: high schools, 8:30 a.m.; middle schools, 10 a.m.; and elementary schools, 1 p.m. Please register for the sessions here. Details and session access information will be emailed directly to registrants before the event. In addition, a recorded version will be available on demand.
     
  • Join the Guinness World Records texting event Students from across the state of Ohio will attempt a world record for the most people texting simultaneously at 2 p.m. on Feb. 5. Click here for details and to register for the event. Teachers are invited to send a video of their students texting to info@itsco.org to help document the record attempt with Guinness World Records.
     
  • Free professional development, workshops and resources are planned for Digital Learning Day A variety of professional development materials, resources and classes related to digital learning are available only on Feb. 5. Click here for additional information on offerings and related links.
     
  • Watch the Digital Learning Day forum: Perspectives on Digital Learning in Ohio – WOSU and state education partners hosted a leadership panel on Jan. 16 entitled Perspectives on Digital Learning in Ohio. The recorded forum will be available on the Ohio Digital Learning Day website on Feb. 5. Panel members include Steve Dackin, superintendent, Reynoldsburg City Schools; Brent Wise, director of Innovation and Extended Learning, Hilliard City Schools; Ashlin Henderson, English language arts teacher, Lancaster City Schools; and Edward A. Hill, Jr., digital learning specialist, Ohio Resource Center and director of Wexford Innovations.
