Teacher evaluators may soon “re-calibrate” credentials through online training
If you became a credentialed evaluator during the past two years for the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System, you will be able to renew your designation beginning in May by successfully completing training and a test. The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET), which administered the original credentialing for the Ohio Department of Education, also is developing required re-calibration. Teacher evaluators will be required to take three hours of online training before taking the test.
If you are registered as an evaluator in the electronic Teacher and Principal Evaluation System (eTPES), you will not be able to enter data in this system past your credential expiration date unless you have successfully completed the re-calibration process (which is required every two years). To ensure that you will have online access to the training and test, and will receive electronic communications from NIET, you should take steps now to ensure you can login to the NIET website. See the department’s website for details on logging in and finding your credential expiration date. Those who are interested in the initial training to become a credentialed evaluator also will find information on the department’s website.
