New training module to help in writing student learning objectives

To assist educators and principals in writing high-quality student learning objectives (SLOs), ODE has released a new online module to complement the four Student Growth Measure modules delivered in training sessions held throughout Ohio in November and December. This fifth module, Writing SLOs, contains two components, offering participants a means of using sample or district-specific data to write student learning objectives.

Resident Educator Summative Assessment task overview available

An overview of the tasks required for the 2013-2014 Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA), a performance-based assessment that third-year resident educators will take this year, is now available here along with a new fact sheet. The overview provides a description of the five tasks that must be completed, with the first task window opening Nov. 11. Learn more about the Handbook inside.

Training opens for facilitators assisting with Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA)

Facilitators who will assist candidates taking the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) this year are required to complete a three-hour online training program that is now open. The department suggests facilitators take the training as soon as possible because it will help them prepare candidates for upcoming assessment tasks. Others associated with the Ohio Resident Educator program also may take the training.

Licensure process going paperless

The process for submitting and reviewing teacher licensure applications is moving to a paperless system by January. Teachers already can apply for licenses and renewals online through the CORE My Educator Profile if the individuals designated to review and approve applications register as electronic application signers.

A new website about formative instructional practices (FIP), FIP Your School Ohio, features a blog section where you will find suggestions and perspectives from educators about using FIP in schools. Bloggers from the Ohio Department of Education and Battelle for Kids, which are partnering to host the site, also provide tips on how formative instructional practices can help you with implement current improvement efforts, including teaching with the state’s new learning standards ...

Schools expected to receive teacher Value-Added data by Nov. 14

SAS is expected to release the teacher-level Value-Added reports for 2012-2013 on the EVAAS website by Nov. 14. Accounts will be automatically created for teachers receiving a Value-Added report and they will also receive their login information from EVAAS when the teacher reports are available.
