#MyOhioClassroom – share your stories of success and innovation with Ohio's education community

The #MyOhioClassroom campaign on Instagram and Twitter offers teachers and administrators a way to share stories of success and innovation with their statewide peers. Here are some ideas for experiences you may want to share: Have a lesson that really clicked or a new project that would encourage others to strive higher? How about a story about students who are going above and beyond the norm? Did new technology help students go to the next level? In this campaign, we want to share what is working and inspiring students to reach their dreams.

Revised learning standards for mathematics and English language arts approved

The State Board of Education has approved revisions to Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics and English Language Arts proposed by the Ohio Department of Education based on recommendations of educators statewide. In many cases, the changes reflect instruction already taking place in Ohio’s classrooms. Clarifications in the revised standards will guide districts in reviewing their existing local curricula, instructional plans and resources to see what modifications, but not replacements, they might want to make.

Tell us what you think of Learning in Ohio website

Recently, we introduced the Learning in Ohio website to help educators more easily find useful information related to Ohio’s Learning Standards. The new website includes redesigned mathematics and English language arts sections, where users will find resources including suggested learning activities and side-by-side comparisons of the 2010 and revised 2017 standards. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts about the website through a short survey. It will remain open through April 5.

​Learning Management System for Ohio Education now available

The Learning Management System for Ohio Education is available anytime and anywhere. The online system provides free courses and professional development on important education initiatives for teachers and administrators. It offers another way for those who may not be able to attend face-to-face trainings to learn from experts on essential topics such as formative instructional practices, gifted education and differentiating instruction. Additionally, participants can keep relevant materials and documents in an individualized e-portfolio. Here are simple directions to access the system and modules available now.

Take free training about teacher-based teams

The free online module, TBTs: What Districts Need to Know, from the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC), contains the latest research linking the work of teacher-based teams to improved outcomes for students and staff. Featured are Foundational Elements for the Ohio Improvement Process, the 5-Step Process, and Inclusive School and District Cultures. Educators can download certificates of completion from all OLAC modules and webinars to submit to their local professional development committees for continuing education credits.
