Incorporate OLAC into your summer learning plans

Summer is the perfect time for educators of all levels to engage in personalized, self-paced professional development. The Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) offers free resources for teachers and administrators, including more than 20 online learning modules and 19 webinars. Topics include teacher-based teams, using data to improve teaching and learning, and meeting the needs of diverse learners.

Teacher value-added reports coming soon

Teachers who had value-added data last school year should watch their inboxes for an email with access instructions for their individual 2014-2015 EVAAS reports. We encourage teachers to review their reports after the message arrives, because the diagnostic information may help in understanding what instructional strategies and resources worked for students in various achievement level groupings.

Sharing online videos with parents can bolster young children’s reading

Have you seen the three new videos to help parents help their children practice reading? Professional development available for sign language interpreter May 7

The Ohio Center for Deafblind Education and the Helen Keller National Center are offering professional development for educational sign language interpreters in Ohio on May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program will be held on the Dublin campus of the University of Dayton's School of Education and Health Sciences Grant Center. The training will focus on strategies that can be used in the classroom when working with a student who has combined vision and hearing loss, as well as information on identifying students and resources available. Time will be given during the training for participants to practice the techniques discussed during the training. Lunch will be provided for all registered participants. Heather Endres, BSW, NIC Advanced, will facilitate the training.
