​Webinars assist with value-added roster verification

Teachers with value-added data will benefit from free webinars tailored to their information needs regarding the annual roster verification process. Roster verification in spring 2017, which begins for teachers on April 3, will result in value-added reports in the fall that must be used in the 2017-2018 teacher evaluations. The best way to ensure that value-added measures accurately reflect the influence of teachers’ instruction on student progress is for districts and teachers to participate in roster verification.

FAQs about consistently high-performing teachers posted

State law directed the State Board of Education to define a consistently high-performing teacher for the purpose of exempting such teachers from completing additional coursework required for renewal of their professional teaching licenses. As a result, certain educators with professional, as well as  lead professional or senior professional teaching licenses may be exempt from these requirements. Use the Ohio Safer Schools tip line for school safety threats

As warm weather and spring testing approach, schools sometimes see the number of bomb threats increase. The use of the free Ohio Safer Schools Tip Line can alert local law enforcement to a school safety crisis. Safer Schools Ohio offers the tip line so students and adults can anonymously report school safety threats by phone or text message. If your district registered in the past for the tip line, now is the time to remind students to use it. Districts that need to sign up may register for a tip line here. You can promote the tip line in your school with free posters and handouts.

Severe weather poster contest open to students in grades 1-6

The Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness is sponsoring a poster contest for students in grades 1-6. Entries should demonstrate the actions students can take before, during and after severe weather events to protect themselves and others. April 17 is the deadline for submitting your school’s first-place posters (per grade) to your regional National Weather Service office. The weather service will announce the regional winners by the end of May. For complete rules and forms to participate, click here.
