Guidance on student participation in 2015-2016 state tests

Some districts are receiving communication from families refusing their children’s participation in state tests this school year. The department encourages schools to talk with families about their concerns regarding testing.

The department made revisions to several Ohio’s State Tests Web pages to make information more accessible to teachers, parents, test coordinators and other administrators. Testing times will be shorter for 2015-2016 state tests

As promised, the Ohio Department of Education has shortened the 2015-2016 state tests in English language arts and mathematics by a range of 39-50 percent from previous tests given in 2014-2015. Schools have flexibility to give an entire test on one day. Or, they may choose to give a test in two parts on two separate days. These two handouts describe testing times:

Teacher credentialing grant applications now accepted for College Credit Plus; webinar available starting Oct. 22

The Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Ohio Department of Education are requesting grant proposals from teachers and higher education institutions for the purpose of increasing the number of high school teachers qualified to teach college courses as part of College Credit Plus. Note that the Higher Learning Commission has updated its practices and there are additional requirements for those wanting to teach College Credit Plus.
