INFOhio announces Storia: Ohio's Grade 4 eBook Collection

Ohio’s fourth-grade teachers have free access to a special collection of 160 eBooks through Scholastic’s Storia as part of an INFOhio pilot program for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year. The 160 titles were specially chosen to support Ohio’s fourth-grade standards in English, mathematics, social studies and science.

Register now for Ohio’s New Learning Standards train-the-trainer workshop

Six educational service centers will host a free, one-day, train-the-trainer workshop, Focus on Ohio’s New Learning Standards: English Language Arts/Literacy & Math, on implementing and communicating Ohio’s New Learning Standards, Sept. 19-26. Districts may send one teacher leader. The teacher will plan how to share the information with district teachers and administrators. Additionally, this leader will serve as the district contact for ongoing support and resource sharing.

Teachers who are current or prospective members of their district’s master teacher scoring team will benefit from a free half-day workshop on Sept. 15 in Westerville (near Columbus). The team participation offers members leadership and professional development opportunities.

Learn about report card and Value-Added data at Ohio’s Measures workshops

A series of one-day regional training sessions are being held this fall to share information about Ohio’s Accountability System including local report card data, updated teacher value-added reports, the data behind the accountability system and how to use the data generated form the measures for school improvement. These training sessions are intended for district and building leaders, teacher leaders and others involved in the school/district improvement process. View the flyer posted here for dates and locations. Principal’s Toolkit offers resources teachers can use in parent communication

Your principal should have received a message regarding the department’s updated Principal’s Toolkit. This online service contains brief news articles, videos, fact sheets and other information to explain the changes in Ohio education for the 2014-2015 school year. Principals, teachers and other administrators can easily use these materials in meetings, curriculum nights and parent conferences. We hope you find the materials useful.

How to advance a resident educator license; recent law changes

To advance a resident educator license to a professional educator license, license holders must successfully complete the four-year Resident Educator Program including the Resident Educator Summative Assessment. One- or two-year extensions of resident educator licenses and alternative resident educator licenses will be available beginning in January 2015, for licenses that will be expiring June 30, 2015.
