Teacher evaluators may soon “re-calibrate” credentials through online training

If you became a credentialed evaluator during the past two years for the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System, you will be able to renew your designation beginning in May by successfully completing training and a test conducted by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET).To ensure that you will have online access and will receive electronic communications from NIET, you should take steps now to ensure you can login to the NIET website.

Start Talking! campaign offers TEACHable Moments resources; funding for Grade 5-9 prevention programs

Ohio drug deaths, including those caused by abusing prescription drugs, have increased 440 percent from 1999-2011, with prescription drugs driving much of that increase. Many kids are first using drugs as early as 11 and 12 years old. What can teachers do? Because children who talk with their parents and other authority figures about drugs are 50 percent less likely to use them, the new statewide initiative titled Start Talking! is providing teachers and parents with communication tools through the Know! program to help with these short but important conversations.

Sign up now for free Ohio Digital Learning Day events on Feb. 5

Wednesday, Feb. 5, is Digital Learning Day 2014, a national campaign to spotlight successful instructional practice and effective use of technology. Teachers and students are encouraged to register to participate in statewide Digital Learning Day events that are all scheduled for Feb. 5, and also to take advantage of resources that will be available that day for future use.

INFOhio is presenting a free webinar on Thursday, Feb. 6 titled Literature Connections to the Common Core: Creating Book Backdrops. Judy Bee, associate director of teaching with primary sources at Illinois State University, will explore how using primary sources known as Book Backdrops can bring books alive by developing and curating historical background.
