Does your educator license expire in 2017? Need a new credential?

Resident educators – be sure your completion criteria is entered in CORE

Each school year, local program coordinators must enter the end-of-year completion criteria for resident educators registered in the CORE system. We ask program coordinators to mark “yes” or “no” to the question of whether each resident educator completed all the year’s processes and requirements. In doing so, they consider their local program requirements (e.g., attendance at required meetings) in addition to the state Annual Resident Educator Program Requirements. You can verify that your completion criteria is entered by the June 30 deadline by logging into CORE through your SAFE account. (Just check the “My RE Summary” located in the important links box.

Background check updates required for educators who have permanent and non-tax certificates

Educators who hold permanent certificates and permanent non-tax certificates are required by state law to update their FBI criminal background checks every five years through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI). In addition, an updated BCI background check is required if the certificate holder has lived outside Ohio within the past five years. Permanent certificate holders whose background checks will expire by June 30 will need to update these if they have not already done so. Educators may view the dates of their previous background checks through the Educator Profile on the Department’s website.
