Comment period now open for revisions to Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math

The Ohio Department of Education invites Ohioans to submit suggestions through April 5 as part of a periodic revision process for Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math. This feedback will help ensure the standards continue reflecting the most recent research and the experience of educators as they help students become ready for college and careers.

Nominations open through March 11 for standards revision working committees in English language arts and mathematics

Educators who have expertise in Ohio’s Learning Standards for English language arts or mathematics may nominate themselves or colleagues to serve on working committees for a standards review process. We are asking content experts with experience ranging from kindergarten through higher education to apply by the Friday, March 11 deadline.

Every Student Succeeds Act Web page now live

President Obama has signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), a long-awaited overhaul of federal education law. Passed with bipartisan support, ESSA represents a shift from broad federal oversight of primary and secondary education to greater flexibility and decision making at the state and local levels. The law replaces the No Child Left Behind Act.

Contest for high school students to support child abuse prevention

The Ohio Children’s Trust Fund is sponsoring a student photo contest in March to build awareness of the importance of preventing child abuse and neglect. Groups of high school students may enter the contest by sending a “pinwheel selfie” by the March 31 deadline for the chance to win $3,000 for their school.
