OhioMeansJobs.com will host new site for students and families in the fall

Beginning fall 2014, OhioMeansJobs K-12 will replace the Ohio Career Information System. Part of the state’s premiere job and résumé bank, the site is available at no cost to all Ohio schools, families and citizens. It offers comprehensive, career development tools, online training and resources specifically for students and teachers. All schools can take advantage of the online information sessions available through May. If your district currently uses the Ohio Career Information System, please direct students to print or save their information before July 1, 2014.

Grades 7-12 teachers invited to learn more about Holocaust education on June 26

In a day-long program on June 26 titled Echoes and Reflections, teachers will explore how to teach about the Holocaust, as well as other episodes of genocide in history. In addition to the training, in-person and virtual attendees will receive the Echoes and Reflections multimedia curriculum, as well as access to lesson plans, primary sources, handouts, photographs and video testimonials. A Holocaust survivor will be among several speakers at this event, which will be held at Walsh University in North Canton.

June Academy offers month-long selection of online and in-person professional development

The Educational Service Center of Central Ohio is hosting a wide variety of learning opportunities during the June Academy. Face-to-face and online options will be available. Select from multi-day, mini-academy options, single-day or half-day options. Topics will include performance task design, project-based learning and Ohio’s Learning Standards. There also is a graduate credit option.

Ohio’s Talent Pool is open for recommendations through May 16

The state of Ohio maintains a file of emerging classroom leaders consisting of distinguished teachers and principals. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for special recognition programs. This year, the state is accepting recommendations for teachers of Kindergarten through Grade 5 through Friday, May 16.
