Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities
The spring 2018 Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities will be administered Feb. 20-April 13. Visit the Ohio Alternate Assessment Portal for more information.
Materials and Additional Ordering Window
Materials for the AASCD will be delivered to districts by Feb. 6. If schools need additional testing kits, districts can place additional orders in TIDE from Feb. 5–April 11. Additional orders can be placed at the district level only, and are subject to Department approval. Please see the Additional Order and Pre-ID Window Guidance Document for more information.
Ohio requires that approximately 10 percent of students in the statewide AASCD population have another trained test administrator, referred to as the second rater, observe the administration and independently score the students’ responses in all tested content areas. Each district should expect at least one second rater assignment.
Second rater assignments are available in TIDE Feb. 8 for districts that pre-identified students by Jan. 31. Districts are required to review the list of students who have been selected for a second rating in TIDE for online administrations. Districts also must identify qualified personnel to serve as second raters, and create user accounts for them. They must ensure that all second ratings are conducted, and that the corresponding scores are entered in the Data Entry Interface.
More information about second rater policies and identifying students who were selected for a second rater can be found in the AASCD Test Coordinator’s Manual and the TIDE User Guide.
Additional Pre-ID Window
The AASCD additional Pre-ID window is now open in TIDE for online administrations. Districts must pre-identify all students participating in the spring 2018 AASCD to enter student scores in the Data Entry Interface. The Ohio Pre-ID File Layout includes fields that designate which students are eligible for the Alternate Assessment.
Alternatively, districts may manually add students to TIDE. Guidance for completing student pre-ID information can be found in the Guidance Document for 2017-2018 Ohio Pre-ID Files. Additional TIDE resources and video tutorials are available on the Ohio Alternate Assessment Portal test administration resource page.
Data Entry Interface
A step-by-step tutorial video on the Data Entry Interface (DEI) is available on the portal and at this link. Test coordinators should encourage their test administrators, teachers and second raters to review this tutorial. Additionally, test administrators, teachers and second raters should log into the Data Entry Interface when it launches on Feb. 20 to make sure they have access to the system, and to familiarize themselves with the data entry process. Test administrators, teachers and second raters must use a supported browser to access the Data Entry Interface.
Alternate Assessment Manuals
The spring 2018 AASCD Directions for Administration Manual and Test Coordinator’s Manual are now available on the Ohio Alternate Assessment Portal. Both manuals can be found in the Test Administration Resources folder under Manuals and Guidance Documents.
Test Administrator Training for the Alternate Assessment
State Support Teams (SSTs) will provide test administration training for the spring 2018 Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD). State Support Teams will post their training sessions in the STARS Professional Development and Technical Assistance System accessible through the SAFE account. In addition, some school districts provide their own trainers and training sessions.
All new test administrators and second raters are required to attend a full-day training session in advance of the test window (Feb. 20-April 13). Returning test administrators and second raters are not required to attend training for the spring 2018 administration. However, to ensure that test administrators and second raters are familiar with all current administration procedures, previously trained test administrators and second raters are encouraged to attend a refresher session delivered either by an SST or through a district-provided opportunity.
An Online Refresher Training PowerPoint has been posted to the Ohio Alternate Assessment Portal in the Test Administration Resources section. This narrated presentation contains an overview of information regarding changes for the spring 2018 administration and a refresher on basics of the alternate assessment. This is an optional resource for all test administrators for the AASCD.
