  • Currently, voucher codes are available through your local Career Technical Planning District (CTPD) office for first time computer based test takers only for the GED®, and TASC test. The voucher codes will expire June 30, 2018.
  • August 2017, the Ohio Department of Education has approved GED, HiSET, and TASC to become the testing assessment companies for the High School Equivalency test for the State of Ohio. Additional information will be forthcoming. Continue to check our website for updates.
  • On June 14, 2016, Gov. John R. Kasich signed into law under Sub. House Bill 113 changes to the GED Office. The primary goal of these changes is to increase options for test takers. The law will not go into effect until Sept. 14, 2016. The changes are as follows:
  • Allow the Ohio Department of Education to approve at least two nationally recognized high school equivalency tests. Testing assessments being considered: GED, HiSET and TASC;
  • The Ohio High School Equivalence Diploma will be recognized as the Ohio Certificate of High School Equivalence as of Sept. 14, 2016. All previously awarded Ohio High School Equivalence Diplomas will still be considered valid; and
  • Age requirement change for 16-, 17- and 18-year-old test takers including:
    • A test taker who is 16, 17, or 18 will be eligible to test under the following guidelines:
      • Officially withdrawn from school and has not received a high school diploma or honors diploma; and
      • A test taker who is 16 or 17 years of age must submit a consent form signed by either the parent, guardian or court official. ConsentForm_SEPT16-1.pdf
  • The following documents will no longer be required for test takers who are 16, 17, or 18 years of age.
    • Good Cause Form;
    • Extenuating Circumstance Form;
    • Transcript; and
    • Back-up documentation.

*16, 17 or 18 year old test takers must submit a copy of the withdrawal form signed by a school official.

 


Update as 03/01/2016

Changes to the Social Studies Extended Response Effective March 1, 2016.

GED Testing Service will be removing the Extended Response item from the Social Studies test. The testing time for the Social Studies test will be reduced by 20 minutes (from 90 minutes to 70 minutes) due to this adjustment.

GED Score Enhancements for the 2014 Computer Based Testing only

The new Passing Score will be 145. The new scores will be reflected in all test-takers ged.com accounts after March 1, 2016.

GED Testing Service has recommended a recalibration of the GED® test passing score and the addition of two new performance levels. These enhancements have now been applied in most states and were made after extensive analysis of test-takers’ performance data from the past 18 months. Please use the resources on this page to learn more about the changes to the GED® program.

Highlights

  • The passing score for high school equivalency has moved from 150 to 145, for all test subjects.*
  • The new “GED® College Ready” performance level (score of 165-174) signifies readiness to enter credit-bearing college courses.
  • The new “GED® College Ready + Credit” level (score of 175-200) signifies that a student qualifies for up to ten hours of college credit.
  • The GED® test continues to measure the problem solving and critical thinking skills valued by employers and necessary for adults to succeed in the workplace and career or college programs.
  • In most states test-takers who scored between 145-149 on the GED® test prior to the new passing score recalibration will now be eligible for their state's GED® credential.*

*A few states are still evaluating the recommendations, or are working with policymakers to change state rules where applicable. These states require more time for consideration of approval, planning and implementation. Updates will continue to be added to this page as approvals and timelines for those states are determined.

New partnership helps GED students look beyond testing with career path exploration

GED Testing Service and edtech startup PathSource have teamed up to pioneer a new direction for GED students that involves not only passing the exam, but also pursuing a clear career pathway at the same time.

GED Testing Services has a new program called GEDWorksTM program. 

WASHINGTON, DC— GED Testing Service has partnered with some of the nation’s largest employers and most recognizable brands— including Walmart, KFC, Taco Bell and Southeastern Grocers— to create GEDWorksTM, a comprehensive program free for employees who want to earn their GED credential. The GEDWorks program includes everything an employee needs to successfully prepare for and pass the GED test. Students are provided access to a GED advisor, online GED study material, connections to local adult education programs, practice tests, and more. GED advisors are a key element of GEDWorks and help guide, engage, and motivate students. GEDWorks also helps keep graduates moving forward after completing the tests by connecting them with college and career pathways tools on GED.com.
