Requirements for Attendance at Revised ODE-Approved Professional Development Orientation

Trainers and other providers of professional development seeking to offer ODE-approved credit must attend an orientation to become familiar with the requirements, the approved PD formats, Ohio’s new Early Learning and Development Standards, and application process via the Ohio Professional Development Network Registry.  To register for the three-hour orientation, download, complete and submit the Registration Form.  2012 Orientation Registration Form

Study Groups/Communities of Practice as Professional Development

The study group - or community of practice - is one way to accomplish job-embedded professional development to increase participants’ knowledge and skills around a selected topic of study.

ODE-approved professional development credit will be issued for a maximum of 10 clock hours per year.  It is expected that the group meet face-to-face for at least this number of hours.  Credit may be pro-rated or denied participants for attendance at fewer than the number of scheduled meetings.

For ODE-approved professional development credit, prospective facilitators must attend an ODE-approved Professional Development Orientation, complete the application process, and conduct the group using prescribed, standardized forms and evaluation materials.  The application materials are available on the ODE website and include:

o Study Group Application
o Memorandum of Commitment
o Sign-in Sheet
o Meeting Minutes Template
o 3-part Study Group Evaluation
o Attendance Summary Report
