The Office of School Sponsorship

The Ohio School Sponsorship program was established by H.B. 153. Under the program, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) may authorize contracts for up to five new start-up community schools and up to 15 existing community schools in each school year beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. ODE created the Office of School Sponsorship to administer the program.

The goal of the office is two-fold. It will provide sponsor oversight that adheres to the highest standards of sponsor oversight and practices. It also will ensure that sponsored community schools operate according to the highest academic standards and fiscal transparency and integrity.

ODE is accepting existing school applications for the 2012-2013 school year.   Applications are also being accepted from new and existing schools for the 2013-2014 school year.  ODE accepts applications via personal delivery, regular mail, or electronic mail. The links below provide information and guidance on the process, as well as a model application.
