District - Educator Evaluation Systems

OTES Evaluator Training

Training for teacher evaluators will be offered regionally beginning in June 2012, and will continue throughout the next two school years. While the training is designed to prepare the estimated 5,400 local building administrators who will need to perform evaluations, other educators are welcome to participate. ODE has the capacity to train approximately 15,000 people by the 2013-2014 school year.

Upon successful completion of the three-day state-sponsored training and an online assessment, the evaluator will be a credentialed OTES evaluator.

OTES State Trainers will conduct training sessions at a variety of convenient locations around the state. Times, locations and registration information can be found in STARS.

Launch of Ohio Teacher Evaluation System

One-hundred fifty educators met in Columbus in May to learn the evaluation process that provides a richer, in-depth view of an educator’s performance, with a focus on specific strengths and opportunities for improvement. Sixty of them are now state trainers.

Hear what a TIF coordinator (Coshocton Schools), principal (Bellefontaine Schools), principal (New Lexington Schools)superintendent (Georgetown Schools), trainer (Stark County ESC) and a trainer (Montgomery County ESC) say about the training and the importance of a better educator evaluation system for improving Ohio’s schools.

Ohio eTPES
The Ohio Teacher and Principal Evaluation Systems (eTPES) is a Web-based educator evaluation system  for statewide use by Ohio districts and schools. Evaluators will be able to collect and store growth and improvement plans, evidence and documented observations to determine educator performance based upon defined rubrics. The electronic system will follow the framework for educator evaluation as adopted by the State Board of Education, which includes multiple measures of teacher and principal performance (50 percent) and student academic growth (50 percent). The first version of eTPES is now available at this location: https://www.OhioTPES.com.

Please Note:

The electronic system project, eTPES (www.OhioTPES.com) is funded by the Race to the Top grant and is provided at no cost to LEAs statewide. Ohio eTPES is a web-based educator evaluation system (incorporating both the Ohio Teacher and Principal Evaluation Systems), and designed by the system vendor, RandA Solutions.

A variety of other vendors (including RandA) have mobile applications for educator evaluation for standard web browsers and mobile devices.  These applications are at a cost to the LEA, and are not required by ODE as an addition to the eTPES system.  LEAs are at liberty to download and purchase products from these vendors, but need to be aware that if an LEA chooses to use any of these other applications,  eTPES is not designed for and will not support integration with other vendor created applications or products.

GAP Analysis Tool
For districts that want to analyze their readiness to implement the standards based evaluation system, a GAP Analysis and Planning Tool is available. This tool is to gauge the readiness for implementation (the tool for aligning evaluation systems to the state model is found within the eTPES system described above).  Below are three hyperlinks to access the GAP tool. First is a link to the recorded presentation. After reviewing the recorded presentation, you will be asked to complete a survey. The second link is to that survey. Once you have completed the survey, the district contact person for the survey will receive an email with the unique district username and password along with the link to the GAP tool. The third link is to the GAP tool. (You will not be able to access that link until you have received the email with your username and password.) If you have questions about the GAP Analysis Planning Tool, please contact evaluation@education.ohio.gov.
