National program highlights exemplary school service
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is announcing the state’s two 2025 Recognizing Inspirational School Employees (RISE) Award finalists, a program created by Congress in 2019 and overseen by the U.S. Department of Education. The award highlights classified school employees who provide exemplary service to their schools, students, colleagues, and communities.
Tisha Chenoweth, an administrative assistant at Westfall Middle School, was recognized on Jan. 9 for her outstanding contributions. Tisha goes above and beyond the expectations of her role, serving as a member of her district leadership team, founding a Staff Climate Committee, and introducing a Positive Behavior Incentive Program for students. Outside of school, Tisha sacrifices countless hours of her own time to partner with local organizations in support of the Westfall community. From restocking a local food pantry to bringing meals and Christmas gifts to families in need, Tisha is truly a resource and asset to Westfall.
Kevin Ball, a bus driver at Olentangy Local School District, was honored on Feb. 14. Kevin was also selected as one of five National RISE Award finalists. Having won multiple awards for his exceptional driving skills, Kevin exemplifies technical excellence behind the wheel and dedication to safety. As an on-bus instructor and vice president of his local Ohio Association of Public School Employees chapter, he is a leader among his colleagues. Kevin is known for building rapport with his students and fostering trust, respect, and security.
